Meet Veselina Radeva, February's Featured Engineer

February 21, 2018 — by Jen Looper

Veselina is a Manager of Software Engineering on the NativeScript Plugins team. She is also a great cook!

What's your background, professionally?
I've been a .NET developer for over 10+ years. In the last few years, I'm more occupied in team management. I've been a part of Progress (previously Telerik) for the last 5 years and I joined NativeScript along with my team about a year ago. Our main responsibilities are proposing good practices to plugin authors in order to ease their job and to achieve the highest quality. We also try to make it easier for community members to create new plugins and contribute to existing ones. In addition, we take care of the plugins previously developed by the NativeScript team, the NativeScript Pro UI components and the NativeScript Marketplace.
What challenges have you encountered while working on NativeScript?
On one hand, NativeScript is built on top of different technologies and keeping them all working in sync is challenging. On the other, building a community, finding the right way to educate the users in best practices, inviting them to take the extra mile and do a pull request, promoting collaboration in solving the problems together all bring additional challenges.
What is the most rewarding experience you've had while working on the team?
Seeing that the recently added plugins follow the NativeScript Plugin Seed structure and the good practices it implements rewards me with confidence that we are going in the right direction. Regarding the technology and the NativeScript team, it's a reward to work in a team that does its best to involve the community in taking roadmap decisions, learns from its mistakes, and improves daily.
Tell us something interesting about your personal life!
I have a 2 ½ year old daughter who occupies most of my spare time. We attend music and English classes together and love to sing and dance all the time. She teaches me patience and confidence which contributes to me doing a better job at NativeScript as well. Also I love to travel and taste local food, visit local cafes, pubs and clubs. You can check out my travel blog Triplorador. I haven't posted for a long time but still someone can find useful tips there :) I love to cook sweets and cakes and my team knows is very well!
